The Parish Council is pleased to announce that it has funded a new community defibrillator and solar powered defibrillator cabinet which will be installed on a post and concrete base/plinth next to the memorial seat/bench at Ramshaw in the coming weeks.
Why should we get a defibrillator?
If someone has a cardiac arrest, a defibrillator can help restart their heart while you’re waiting for the emergency services to arrive.
Getting a defibrillator for your organisation, community or school is vital because:
there are more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year and currently less than 1 in 10 survive
without immediate intervention with a defibrillator, most cardiac arrests are fatal
every minute without CPR and a defibrillator, reduces survival chances by up to 10%.
VOLUNTEER DEFIBRILLATOR GUARDIANS REQUIRED
Residents in Evenwood and Barony parish are being offered the chance to step forward and play their part in saving lives. Basic life support and access to early defibrillation give the best chances of survival for a patient who suffers a cardiac arrest. The Parish Council is seeking to appoint at least one, but preferably two, volunteer guardians aged 18 years or older, who will check each of two Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and cabinets once a week for 5 minutes each machine. A computer or android ‘phone will be required to make weekly updates to confirm that they are in good working order and defibrillator pads are in date. This will help to make sure the community defibrillators are always ready and, if there are any issues, North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) is aware of them quickly and can ensure that the defibrillator is temporarily deactivated from their system. The equipment located on the wall at the sports pavilion at the Welfare Ground in Evenwood and next to the memorial seat/bench at Ramshaw belongs to the Parish Council, which is responsible for ensuring that it is checked regularly and for on-going expenses, such as replacement pads and batteries.
